  • Industrial pollution

Industrial pollution has become a contentious issue all over the country including Tamilnadu. As noted earlier, in the past, due to the quest for rapid industrialistion adequate and due attention was not given to the problem of industrial pollution. The huge quantities of pollutants – solid, liquid and gaseous which are being let out in the air, water and land systems – coming out from industries are causing severe damage to the environment and inflicting grave health hazards to large number of people. Hundreds of industrial units dealing with chemicals, fertilisers, leather and many other items dump their sludge into the waterways or even along the roadside. A large number of textile bleaching and dyeing units in Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Erode and Karur districts have contaminated rivers such as the Noyyal, Amaravathy and other water bodies all over the state. Many areas in the state have to face serious health health problems due pollution. Therefore, the government should take immediate steps to combat the dangerous consequences of pollution.
