Chennai corporation will set up 5,000 new rain water harvesting pits | It is a good move. It is matter of grave concern that ground water
resources in the city is drying out fastly. The announcement by the
Mayor of the Chennai corporation that it will set up 5,000 new rain
water harvesting pits in various parts of the city is a welcome move. In
fact, many people who don't get drinking water supply from metro water,
draw water from the ground for bathing, washing, cooking and even
drinking through bore wells. Rain water harvesting is really a lot
better than storm water drains in conserving water. Rain water
harvesting will also reduce flooding of roads to a large extent. Dr.C.Murukadas, The Times of India, July 23,2012 |
