Mamata Banerjee's accusation that the Congress has been following
unilateralism in decision making without caring for the sentiments and
views of the coalition partners is absolutely true. It is disquieting to
know that in vital policy decisions the Congress has never involved in
proper consultation with its alliance partners, including its chief
allay, the All India Trinamool Congress. Perhaps with the exception of
Mamata Banerjee, the leaders of all other parties supporting the UPA II
government, either as partners in the coalition or supporting from
outside, are involved in various corruption scandals. Nevertheless, all
the coalition partners of UPA II as well as those parties supporting
from outside have expressed strong opposition to the rush of reform
measures, especially Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand
retail and decision on curtailing supply of subsidised domestic LPG
cylinders, announced by the Central government last week.
